I.O.I were a temporary project group formed from the winners of Produce 101 Season 1 in 2016. The group was comprised of 11 female idols from different companies and the group debuted under YMC Entertainment. The group was formed with the aim of promoting for one year before the members returned to their original labels.

The group released their debut EP, Chrysalis on May 4th 2016.
Due to scheduling conflicts between YMC Entertainment and individual idols' companies, an I.O.I subunit was formed to release a remake of the 1963 song by Linda Lyndell, 'Whatta Man'.

The group released their final single 'Downpour' on January 18th, 2017.
