Hara was a member of the girl group KARA. She and Jiyoung joined the group in 2008 following Sunghee's departure.
At the age of eight, due to financial difficulties, her parents left her to be raised by her paternal grandmother. This led to an estrangement between Hara and her parents as Hara revealed in 2010 that she had not spoken to them since before she debuted.
Due to their financial situation, Hara worked as a model before debut.
Hara was an establish actor having made her acting debut in the 2011 drama, City Hunter.
She debuted as a solo artist in 2015 with the song, Choco Chip Cookies.
After her group disbanded, Hara focused primarily on her acting career.
In 2018, Hara met Choi Jong-bum on the set of the beauty TV program My Mad Beauty Diary. The two would go on to date. In September 2018, Choi broke into her home and seriously assaulted her leaving her with injuries including uterus and **** hemorrhage and facial contusions and sprain.
Hara brought Cho to court for this assault at which point he threatened to leak a non-consensual sex tape.
In January 2019, Content Y refused to renew her contract following its expiration due to the legal battle with her ex.
On May 26, 2019, Hara attempted suicide in her apartment.
On October 14, 2019, Hara's best friend and self described sister, Sulli died by suicide.
Hara died by suicide on November 24th, 2019, aged 28.
